2012 Mental Health Hero Cartoon-A-Thon
Drawing done by Chato Stewart
Maureen A. Fifer works at Trover Solutions/Healthcare Recoveries Inc (a subrogation company) as a Customer Service Specialist. She has been with the company for over 10 years and has won the Peak Performance Award and was invited to the CEO Club.
Maureen was diagnosed with bipolar disorder over 10 years ago and underwent brain surgery for a large brain cyst. Even though Maureen is not a mental health professional, she does play a very important role in peer support. She is Secretary and on the Board of Directors of Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance Louisville. On Monday nights, she leads the support group at Clark Memorial Hospital. Her responsibilities also include advertising for DBSA Louisville and arranging for guest speakers. Just in the last year DBSA Louisville has had “Ask the Doctor Night,” “Ask the Judge Night,” and guest speakers on art therapy, social security, public speaking, and job readiness. Maureen even had her name on billboard advertising for her support group. The local chapter of Louisville’s website is dbsalouisville.org and the national DBSA website is www.dbsalliance.org
If she can get across one message to people who suffer from mood disorders it would be that you don’t have to go through this alone. Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance slogan is “We’ve been there. We can Help.”
